Birding

At Sundogs we are pleased that our property has a variety of habitats to support a variety of avian friends. We have open fields, tree lines, edge woodlands, and riparian woodlands. We have also provided additional water sources and planted a variety of flora to encourage visitation and nesting.

The following checklist indicates the variety of birds we or our guests have identified.

The left-hand table lists: geese, ducks, swans, quail, grouse, turkeys, grebes, pigeons, doves, cuckoos, nightjars, swifts, hummingbirds, rails, gallinules, coots, cranes, avocets, plovers, sandpipers, gulls, terns, loons, cormorants, pelicans, bitterns, herons, egrets, ibises, new world vultures, eagles, hawks, owls, kingfishers, and woodpeckers.

The right-hand table lists: falcons, flycatchers, shrikes, jays, crows, ravens, larks, swallows, chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, creepers, wrens, gnatcatchers, kinglets, thrushes, mimids, starlings, waxwings, old world sparrows, pipits, finches, longspurs, warblers, sparrows, cardinals, grosbeaks, buntings, blackbirds, and orioles.
